not sure if this is an official music video or not, but it should be. i’m sure it’s not, but i want to give props to whoever did this and the fact that they chose the perfect font for this video.
i used to be in this band, sir jackson and the long ride, and while i’m not trying to boast, we were pretty good. if you click here and then click on “Music” at the top of the page you can download all 5 glorious tracks of our E.P., “from now on, you answer to me”. sir jackson was one of those bands that, not unlike buddy holly or richie valens, was extinguished much too young. to this day nate and i will call each other up with a new sir jackson tune that the world needs to hear. alas, it can never happen. well, a couple months ago, nate called me up with a tune that he wrote called “death word”. we both agreed that it needed to be recorded so that the masses could once again hear the fury that was sir jackson and the long ride. so, over the last couple months, here in the heller studios (or, lucky laboratories, as i call them) i’ve been putting nate’s vision to digital “tape” as it were. and with his ear on board, we’ve created another tune that we’re proud to add to the sir jackson and the long ride catalogue. enjoy the tune below.
p.s. – for those of you unfamiliar with sir jackson, i should tell you that our sound was what i like to call garage/surf rock (though we were definitely moving more towards a garage/surf/metal sound). everything was instrumental. no vocals minus the occasional screams (i can take credit for those) and between song banter/rock talk at live shows. so, if you’re waiting for the lyrics to kick in, you’ll be waiting a while. we didn’t just forget them.

so, a friend of ours was having her 10th anniversary and wanted us to write a song to some lyrics that she wrote. i’ve never really done anything like that but we thought it would be fun to try and we had the whole thing finished in about 15 minutes. recording it took a little bit longer, but i really like the finished product. plus, i rip out my best classic rock solo just after the 2 minute mark. that alone is worth the price of admission. check it out below.

so, i’ve been listening to some alt. country stuff lately and have kind of been getting into it. for those of you who are crying “heretic!”, don’t worry it’s not that kind of country. just some good poppy stuff. anyway, i’ve decided i want to try my hand at writing a country tune, so here’s the result. i figured it had to be about something sad, so don’t take this as a reflection of my marriage or anything. anyway, here you go…

so, i’ve taken upon myself a rather large project. i’m taking the original tracks to the arrogants‘, “you’ve always known when best to say goodbye”, and remixing them. this is made an even larger project by the fact that i’m pretty inexperienced whn it comes to remixes. so, with out further adieu, here are my first 2 attempts (which i’m actually pretty pleased with).

so, i came across idiot pilot in some podcast somewhere. i’m always skeptical of new music that i just happen to run into. most of the good music on my life has come from any one of various trusted sources. i rarely come into good music on my own. idiot pilot are 2 guys that make music and perform it live. i always dig it when 2 people can make good music and manage to perform it live on their own.

i’ll be honest, I have no idea why i got this album. i only heard one track on the radio, and i thought it was pretty cool, but not cool enough (at the time) to invest the time and effort into an entire album. but I got it. and i’ve made a remarkable discovery. muse are what radiohead could have been had they not gone lame after ok computer. i can already hear the cries now, “heretic! traitor! radiohead are as good as they’ve ever been!!!” nope. you’re wrong. you’re all either liars or really fooling yourselves. radiohead took a downward spiral not long after discovering modular synths. and it was a steep spiral. i will grant you that both kid a and amnesiac had some really cool sounds, but those albums were nothing compared to their earlier genius. i thought that i was forever going to be yearning for the “old days”. and then i heard this song.
the killer’s new album, sam’s town, is a fast grower for me. i have to admit that i haven’t given their first album, hot fuss, much of a listen. oh, i’ve heard the hits and a few other tunes here and there and i really have liked what i heard but for whatever reason, i haven’t dived into it like i know i should. so, when i heard that they released a 2nd album, i bought it on principle but figured that i wouldn’t really listen to it much. luckily, i was wrong. this album is fast growing on me to be one of my current favorites.
