-so lagwagon's new album "blaze"
is pretty good. for whatever reason, those guys speak to me.
-today was the last of physical therapy for the knee...it feels good. surfing
has been killer regardless of wave quality...
-tool sounds really, really
good right now.
-i'm stoked for the new beehive
& the barracudas which is coming next month...
04/01/03
-stuff from march '03....
-i saw pretty
girls make graves kill it at the troubadour...'plastic soul' by beehive
& the barracudas is absolutely incredible...i am now crutch-less,
cane-less, and brace-less, so life is good, but i still can't do jack...my
good friends, josh and melissa, just had their first baby, sophia rose. i'm
stoked...my sister got pregnant...youngusher finally talked to that damn chick
he's been wanting to talk to you forever...flarey, myself, and a hot chick
named k. anderson are going to see elliott smith tonite at the 'detroit bar'
in costa mesa...march has been a boring and interesting month all at the same
time...i'm stoked for the spring and the coming days when i can get back into
the water...
03/01/03
-saw a good show last night:
-----arkham
- like we've said here before, go buy their album. listen here.
-----milemarker
- politiking kids from chicago...pretty cool, dark sound.
-----the blood
brothers - chaos held together by a thread. i was tired just watching
them. listen.

-it had been awhile since i last bought some music so i had a few discs in
mind as i walked into the record store last week. upon arriving, i saw that
all the discs that i wanted where conveniently stocked right in the very front
of the store - in the top 25 display...not the top 25 in the nation, but the
top sellers for that particular store...i never fashioned myself to be a top
40 listener, but apparently I am...at least in costa mesa...
-more daniel
johnston news...he's actually got a new album coming out on march
25th called "fear yourself."
02/26/03
-so i went ahead and jacked up my knee playing hockey...i knew i shouldn't
have played this season. trust your first instincts kids...whatever...
-i saw the burning
brides again a couple weeks ago. they still slay it.
-apparently the hot
snakes have no plans of touring in the near future...
-i just finished my best of 2002 article...not that it should've taken me
this long to write...geno should be posting it soon if anyone is interested.
-i finally broke down and bought the new discs by the
flaming lips (check
out their website, they got their whole new album on it) and coldplay.
i'll let you know what i think a bit later...
-i also bought the new disc by zwan,
you know mr. smashing pumpkins' new band...i totally dig the first single
"honestly"...
-lately, i've dug into the archives quite heavily... i've been listening to
some daniel
johnston. if you've never heard this guy, you need to take a listen.
he's a schizo dude, living in his parent's basement in Austin, TX, who recorded
some songs in the 80s and 90s. he sings these love songs from this cool innocent/naive
perspective. he doesn't really get it, but he totally gets it...check out
his stuff and you'll understand...
-the new album from lagwagon
- "blaze" - will be out on april 8th...
01/05/03
-2002 - it was pretty damn cool. 2003 - we'll see.
-Joe Strummer,
RIP. he saved me from a life of poor music. this guy rules. the clash taught
me how music is supposed to sound.
-the man comes around by johnny
cash slays it all.
12/14/02
-the holidays are upon us once again. you blink and another year goes by.
it never ceases to amaze me. what have i done with my life? where the hell
am i going? good questions.
-i'm thinking there should be an age limit for team sports. there's nothing
worse than seeing some dumb ass 35 year old making a fool of himself on a
basketball court, hockey rink, etc... i'm still in my twenties but i'm thinking
that time is coming very soon. when you find yourself so pissed off over some
stupid penalty that you feel the need to jaw some ref (whose probably getting
paid minimum wage, mind you) for an extended period of time, i think it's
time to move on.
-"it takes two" by rob base and dj ezrock needs to be retired.
12/05/02
-I made it home, unfortunately my luggage is still sitting in a costa rican
airport. Oh the joys of traveling on a latin american airline - beware of
flying Lacsa. We were told that we could file a complaint, and they would
forward it on to their corporate office in El Salvador
lots good would
come from that I'm sure. I just want my clothes and board back.
-Yesterday, a VP at work asked me what I want to be when I grow up
good
question. Anyone got any ideas?
11/21/02
-I leave for costa rica tonight...go
to rovercam.com over the next 10 days to check out some daily surf
pics...you might even see slinky's alter ego...peace.
11/19/02
-The last couple weeks have been pretty busy and stressful, but the stress
is over for now. There were some highlights, however:
- I was reminded once again that rock 'n roll kicks ass when I saw the Burning
Brides last week. Some say rock needs a savior. I'm not sure if that's
true or not, but these guys could carry the load. No whine, all rock.
- Last night, youngusher and I ventured up to Anaheim to see Arkham.
They kicked up the rock - "Better than Me" is a hit kids. You should
probably go buy their album. Youngusher
took some pics, and Geno posted them here. Check 'em out.
In two days, I go to Costa
Rica for some surf, sun, and bugs
needless to say, I'm stoked.
10/30/02
-So I was on the Internet at work (for work related reasons of course) today
and this pop-up ad came up that read: "How do I buy one share of my favorite
company?" I love the ruthless game of corporate America as much as the
next white guy, but are we that far gone that in addition to our favorite
bands, teams, sports, etc, we have favorite companies? "No, I don't own
any stock, but they're my favorite." Craziness.
10/29/02
-a bunch of years ago i was talking to my late uncle about the world cup.
he was a huge sports fan, but he didn't really like soccer for whatever reason
(or for all the reasons). but he watched the world cup. when i asked him why,
his response was something to the effect of 'it's exciting watching any sport
where the players are giving everything.' that's a true statement, and it
transcends beyond sporting events. it is great listening to a band, reading
a book, watching a movie, etc. with real passion, intensity, and talent behind
it. it inspires such a romantic notion of life, which helps us escape the
redundancy of life...get up, eat, go to work, come home, etc. it's pretty
cool.
the angels won. beautiful.
10/23/02
-songs i'm stoked on today:
"feels like falling in love" - the arrogants
"sans cosm" - sparta
"tall
cans in the air" - transplants
"ivanka"
- imperial teen
10/22/02
-got tickets today for the burning
brides show. i'm stoked.
10/15/02
-Beware of the RIDE.
It's coming to your town soon
well maybe.
10/14/02
-I hate emo. Well, at least, I hate the whole concept of cool, geeky, sensitive
boys writing rock songs. Don't get me wrong, there are some that stumble upon
a good song or two. Thursday, Jimmy Eat World, and The Promise Ring have all
released songs that I like. The reason I am truly annoyed by the whole "emo"
thing is that they are so serious. Everything is so meaningful and important
emotions,
feelings, causes, etc. Dammit dude, it's just rock 'n roll. Relax. Sorry,
but your album is neither changing my life, my culture, nor the musical landscape
of our world. Your album will be forgotten. Don't worry about it. Just play
some music.
